Hello Everyone, My name is Ryan and this is my first post. I have been trading and collecting pins for over a year. I collect Hidden Mickeys and a few characters that my 2 year old daughter likes. I have noticed that a small percentage of our pins overall are scrapper/fakes. It is discouraging but I keep plugging along trying to weed them out.
I have noticed that when trading with people at the tables at Epcot they seem to have an overwhelming amount of the hidden mickeys I need to complete sets. I cant figure out how they amass such collections of newer hidden mickeys when it seems they are camped out at tables all day. (Once saw a guy pull out a fishing tackle box, with every silver completer in a compartment and a dozen duplicates of each.) One of the main problems I have is they wont trade unless you purchase new pins from inside. If I am to purchase pins I would want to keep them. I do not feel it is worth $5.95-$19.95 for a HM that they have 10-20 of. It is a real bummer when they encourage you to look through all their books knowing all along that they do not plan on trading for any pin on my lanyard.
I wear a lanyard with pins that I do not mind trading to anyone at anytime. If an adult or child looks at my pins I will stop and gladly trade even if they are trading me a pin I already have. I hope others can begin to do this and take some of the negative connotations of being a pin trader away.
I look forward to talking with many of you and I am an annual passholder at WDW who goes frequently!

Hi Ryan, it is a patience and carma game in pin trading. The folks with the books, i cant figure them out, wether they are scammin or legit? Now that i know alot more about pins...their values...availability and scrappers i did very well with them. I traded 2 pins with 2 dif people there,,,,however WDW is very tough trading. Unless you trade direct with other guests, they removed the tables at DTD. So i basically give pins to kids and purchase form the racks. with that being said i have purchased a new pin for the traders because the pin i got from them i new was abou the same value on ebay, so i was cool with that. Have fun and trade on here!

Hi & welcome Ryan! :lgm:
I can relate to the wanting to keep pins you buy. If you're buying them to trade, it's best to go for the ones that aren't special to you that you can get for the best price.
Hope you have more positive trading experiences in the future!

Hello & Welcome!

Please set up your pinpics so we can see it here. You would be amazed at how many people on this site would love to help you out, without you buying them something and without giving up your first born. :-)

Vicki

Hello and Welcome,
Ill add this to your topic, some people get to the park at opening and just gather up all the restocked lanyard pins around the whole park, something id never get cause i dont wake up till after park opening, or they are the 5% and they are scrappers.

Its tough to figure them out but the choice is always up to you.

Just make sure your having fun!
