Pin bag alternatives?

Hey all,

So between the three of us in my family who have all caught the pin bug, we've accumulated enough pins to fill up three lanyards (with more on the way). While we were at the parks, we did have some trouble with pins falling off the lanyards so I definitely need a better way to store them. I've looked at the pin bags that are on ebay, but they have a tendency to get pretty expensive. So I need some cheaper alternatives. I've heard of people storing them in binders when they have the backing cards, but what about loose pins? Have any of you figured out a way to safely store them without having to spend so much money on the bags?

If you want to use a binder with baseball card pages you can always put multiple pins on pin backer cards then into the pages. Or, if you don't have backer cards you can use some really thick paper or thin cardboard pages. Cut them out to the correct size to fit into the baseball card pocket. And once again you can put multiple pins on one card if they are regular or smaller in size.

You also have the option of buying non-Disney pin storage bags.

I agree with everything karkura said, you can also use a corkboard. And there are locking backs, they do not look like the mickey heads like the rubber ones do, and you pop them on the pin and turn them to lock them and the only way to unlock them is to re-turn them and pull them off so you dont have to worry about pins just falling off. I hoped this has helped =D

Earring backings work well as "locking" backs too. They don't actually lock but they hold on very tightly.

For traders (not the LE stuff) but basic ones that you want to display (but not on a lanyard), use an old CD case/holder (the ones that used to hold 24 cds)

Yeah, I saw that thread someone started about backs. I think that's where I read that those locking backs can bend and/or break the posts. Is that right? The other backs that were mentioned in that thread sounded great. So the backs I think I have covered. I just didn't know of other ways to store them so I can get them off the lanyards. The corkboards are lovely and I looooove seeing all the pics posted here of everyone's collections on them, but they probably won't work for me. We're a military family and move every 3-4 years so that could be an issue. Plus, we have two cats, including one especially inquisitive Siamese (thus the goal of getting a Si & Am collection), who probably wouldn't allow those pins to stay put. So a bag it is.

I was not aware of off-brand pin bags though. I'm assuming you can find those on ebay as well? That might work if I can find one at a decent price. Are they basically the same construction, with the pages you that you can attach pins to plus the mesh pocket at the front? I'll take a look and see what I can find!
