Pin Lots

My kids want to pin trade when i take them back to WDW in Sept. Right now we don't have any to trade.

I understand about scrappers and fakes on EBAY, but is there anyone one on there selling legit lots?

I'm sure the 50, 100 & 200 lots are scrappers but i'm also sure that not everyone one of those people are fraud.

Try calling the outlet mall stores near WDW (Character Warehouse and Character Premier, I believe are their names). They have park pins starting at $1.99 each.

I think LuvSimba has the best advice. Buy a bunch of the $2-3 pins from the outlet places when you get there. Just try to get a good variety that way you actually start a nice collection for cheap.

Yes, it does eat up a little park time, but you are already spending time on line. You may order a lot from what you think is that one truly legit source and then you find out most of them are scrappers. So then, you have to spend more time to return them, fight for a refund, etc. It is not worth the aggravation.

You may be able to buy some legit pins here on the forum for $2-$3 a pin if you post it in the wanted section.

Is there a DLR outlet store?

I've been mostly buying pins for my collection and not actually trading. It sounds like a good plan just to build up a stash of pins to use for trading.

Sometimes you can find people selling 10 or 12 pins in lots and they have a bunch of these smaller lots. If the pins are older rack pins and don't appear to have extra metal in the crevices, sometimes you can get some real pins for cheaper than $2 or $3 a piece. The ones in quantities of 25's are usually not legit. Even if they say "These are the exact pins you're getting" they are trying to make them sound legit but are often not. I have had good luck with a few sellers that list 10 to 15 pins per auction, have a code like A-12 or C-2 or whatever on a piece of paper and the actual pins you're getting shown. Typically some crappy pins like old High School Musical pins, a few random hidden mickey's, some starter set pins, etc. You may get a scrapper or two but for the price you can chuck them and still be ok. Look for the newest 2012 HM or starter pins also, a good sign the pins are freshly traded and real as the newest pins aren't typically scrapped right away. Although an infamous few are scrapped before they come out, like the Genie T-shirt HM from last year.

If my dang phone would work I'd give you an auction number to check out to see what I mean....stand by. Seller "rmgerace" was one I just got a bunch from, most were legit save a random one or two. I kinda know which ones to look out for, like the lolipop pins, DSF director chair pins, big Maleficent starter pins are notorious fakes. Seller "retiredreadingspecialist" sells lots and 85% or more have been good legit pins. A few scrappers here and there. A very nice lady to deal with, she sends me thank you's with my orders and an extra pin last time that was figment saying "Grateful."

You can occasionally find people selling lots on here for good prices. Also, occasionally on ebay you will see sets of booster packs for decent prices. The scammers are NOT reproducing the booster packs (last I heard from a well placed source) so you're pretty safe buying those.

Sorry to be the rain cloud here, but there are plenty of fake booster pins as well. Fakes are not limited to hidden mickeys, not by a long shot. There are just as many rack pins, boosters, vinylmation, ect, copies as the hidden mickeys.

I would just stick with the outlets, they are 100% ligit pins and you know what you'll be getting. Plus, you won't get the 'stink' eye from cast members when you trade. Why gamble when you know you're getting the real thing from the outlets for the same price as anywhere else? A lot less hassle and you don't have to worry.

If you will read what I said, I specified "booster packs". Meaning the retail package. Not loose pins in the individual ziplock baggies.

My understanding is that counterfeiting the pins is what these folks do. They don't go to the time, trouble and expense of counterfeiting the cardboard artwork, printing, pinning, packaging, etc. That's far too time consuming and expensive for them to take the trouble to do. And it's even harder to get right than the pins. So....you can find some decent deals on ebay with the booster packs.

Counterfeits are out there for almost everything. You just gotta be careful.

On another note, there are folks making counterfeit Dr. Dre Beats Studios. (My son's Christmas present last year). People are selling them on craigslist for $180 instead of the $300 you would pay at an authorized dealer. The easiest way to tell the fake? They can't duplicate the packaging artwork correctly. The box looks pretty much the same but the repro of the photos/artwork (including the photo of Dr. Dre and of the headphones) is badly off. The headphones are a dead ringer though. Most people would not know the difference. I met one such seller at a Chick Fil A. He showed me the box and I could tell right away they were bogus but I listened to his pitch. It was funny. Supposedly his cousin works in the factory so he can get a discount. I then bought my son's set from an authorized dealer.

just buy your pins here at DPF. I know a member here that will make u a real good deal and if u get a good amount of pins they usaly give you some LE pins. Also you can pick what pins you want or like i did. You can just say how many pins you need and he will make u a lot of pins up that you will love.

When i got our pins.. almost all of them were new on the card and so nice that we wanted to keep them and not trade. But we bought them just to trade. So out of that lot of 25. we saved 15 and only traded 10. lol
but if you want real pins and at the best price you can get... i would look for this member. PM me if you would like his name and want to get sum real good "real pins" at a real good price.
if you dont care about the card or how nice the trader is..than i also like to get pins from my d pins shop. They have $2 pins always and sumtimes $1.80.
