PIN & POP PIN & POP Site Announcements & Ideas
So I see the Series page has been updated. My immediate issue is that the Default for this page is no longer sorted by Release Date, which I presume is the a preferred method for people to review pins in a Series. They want to see either the Newest or the Oldest, just as long as it goes in a sequential order. And in order to change to to a Release Date sort, you have to scroll all the way down the filter list, and then all the way back up to hit the apply filter button.
Default sort should still be based on pin release date (newest release first). We have had some pins added that incorrectly had future release dates so (I think) these have been fixed.

Spring 2026 Updates

Trader Approve - Extra Token Update

At this time, we will NOT be taking an extra token for Trader Approve trades. We previously communicated that the May 2026 Trade Arcade would be the first event with an extra token charge for Trader Approve, which is more work for our staff as we have to take photos of the front and back of the pins and post them in the app for trader review. We're still working hard on our internal processes to improve the turn around time on trades and, based on conversations we've seen and been involved in, we're contemplating options that would customize the authentication experience for different trader experiences. This is what we're thinking...

1 Token for photos provided AND/OR 1 Token for Pin & Pop validation

Many of you feel comfortable reviewing and deciding on authenticity... or know there aren't any fakes of a specific pin and really just want validation on quality of the pin or confirmation that there a backer card included. In this instance, P&P would just provide the photos and let you decide (1 Token). Others that aren't as confident or would like us to review/verify could get that without needing photos (1 Token). There's a rarer group that want both P&P authentication AND photos to be provided (2 Tokens). It's similar to what we have now BUT it also give more choice for different pins or different types of traders. Hopefully everyone feels this is fair. It may take us a month or two to get this fully implemented.

Backer Cards

We know backer cards are important to many so we're currently thinking through how to better surface if they're included or not. They aren't important to everyone so we need to figure out something that can work for all. We do recognize their importance to many traders and sellers though.

Thanks to everyone that continues to help us improve and thank you for your patience with us as we try to improve our turn-around time on Trade Arcades. We're growing, but still a small team of workers and volunteers that love pins!

So just for clarification. I see sort of 3 parts to the process.

1. A lot can be learned from touching and seeing a pin in person, which only the Kansas team can provide
2. Photos
3. Research

In this new scenario it would be 1 token for 2 OR 1+3? Or 1+2 or 1+3? 2 Tokens for 1+2+3.

Because I don't usually need #3, Research but I would definitely still want 1+2. If a pin feels and looks bad, but I've asked for a photo, would I only get a photo, or also a note that the pin feels and looks wrong?

Hopefully that expedites the process with getting pins turned around in a quicker manner.

Perhaps a better defiinition of backer card can be given here. Yes, if there's a special backer with an LE pin of course include that. Will there be a penalty if a backer isn't included with a "Hidden Disney" pin or 'mystery set' that doesn't come with it's own backer?

Also question, those who send pins in within a week of end of Trade Arcade, have the auto approve in place, or pack pins as instructed - Is there a rebate, like at target for bringing your own shopping bag?

This new structure sounds as a wee bit confusing for me, but I personally wish I could set my preference by pin. If I am trading for a loungefly or other common OE pin, I am fine with auto approve for any pin that is authentic and doesn't have major flaws. All of these minor blemishes are making me crazy. If I can't see it without a magnifying glass or if the "flaw" can only be seen at certain angles, then I don't think of it as a blemish or flaw but a production imperfection that is just par for the course. I guess some people are looking for perfection, but I feel like there are a lot of pins that I would set to: auto approve authentic with minor blemishes. Now if the flaw is something that can clearly be seen without looking for it, I would definitely want to see a picture.

For the rarer LE pins, I would be pickier, especially if they are potential traders, so I would set my approve preferences a little higher. But being able to auto approve minor blemishes should speed up the process for those of us who are not seeking absolute perfection.

And on that note, I would love to be able to get a note when I go to trade with people who frequently decline pins for these minor blemishes. So if I am offered a pin by this person in the future, or I want to offer something on their table, I get a little warning: This person frequently declines pins for minor blemishes. Why waste all our time?

All that said, I feel like there needs to be a blemish rating system from minor (production imperfections that are only noticeable when searching for it or using a magnifiying glass) to major (can clearly be seen without looking). I think that gets to a grading system similar to what @ViciousLady mentioned.

I really wish I could see the blemish/authenticity photos and notes for my pins, I have several trades that are waiting on the other trader to confirm the pin right now and I want to know what the issue is and/or what I missed
I agree. From the beginning I've thought Pin & Pop is serving as a neutral intermediary and that all parties (both traders) should have access to the same information - including all photos/notes about blemishes/uncertainty.

I thought we could. Does this only happen if the trade is cancelled?
From what I can remember, yes. I did get photos with a cancelled trade from January and wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. I could have sworn the pin was in great condition but guess I need to do a better job of examining before putting up for trade. 🥲

With a microscope and light shining from various angles to be sure you catch every tiny nick or speck.

So, what we're basically attempting here is a way for someone to get photos without being charged 2 tokens. If Pin & Pop spends time authenticating AND taking and publishing photos - that takes up more time so therefore is 2 tokens.

In your example, 1 & 3 usually always happen together. It will breakdown as 3 options:
  1. Pin & Pop authenticates and will auto-approve if everything looks good, but will provide photos and information if there are blemishes (same as auto-approve today) - 1 TOKEN
  2. Pin & Pop authenticates AND provides photos and information (similar to trader-approve today) - 2 TOKENS
  3. Pin & Pop provides you with photos so you can do your own authentication and quality review (we won't be proving info unless it's obvious to us) - 1 TOKEN
Authenticating pins requires knowledge and experience that's not easy to find locally. We have multiple remote helpers and some local helpers that we're training, but this is (by far) the thing that takes the most time between events. Adding #3 is intended to reduce our time spent and also keep your spend to a single Token.

Let me know if this is still unclear.

No penalties regarding backer cards.

We've tried hard to keep our prices as low as we possibly can and offer discounts on trade tokens a couple times per year.

Hopefully, my explanation to hopemax made it more clear.

I understand that not everyone is happy with how we handle blemishes. When we tried to be less picky we received comments and emails from unhappy traders that were disappointed. It's subjective and everyone has differing opinions what should be flagged.

We currently do allow you to pick which pins/trades get auto-approved and which get trader-approved w/ photos. You can get photos for rarer LE pins that you choose to be pickier about.

We do provide an "Accept Trades" rating to show if the trader Frequently, Rarely, or Never "cancels trades for verified pins" but those DO NOT include rejections of blemished pins. Again, it's SO subjective and can be determined by more than only the pin itself... maybe someone isn't picky if they're rotating out traders but maybe the will be picky for rarer LE pins (like you mentioned) that are part of their main collection. There's a lot more nuance that we've discovered in the last few years as we've been trying to build this process - and I'm know we'll continue to discover more.

We don't have a rating system but we do informally provide specific feedback on the blemishes we find. We will note if the blemish is easily noticeable or not... some find that helpful and some do not.

We will continue to evaluate our current process and always try to improve so we do honestly appreciate the feedback!

We sincerely appreciate everyone who's supported us and helped us get better over the years. We try to provide the best, safest trading experiences that we can. We also understand that we're not going to be the right experience for everybody. We understand if you've become frustrated with our processes or our turn-around times (we don't like that either and are working to improve it). This is a big hobby with even more pin databases and sites and apps than we've ever had access to before. More regional pin events than I've ever seen. More pins being released. More collectors buying, selling and trading. More facebook groups and reddit groups and discord groups. More awesome YouTube, Instagram and TikTok pin content. It unfortunately also means more scalpers, and fakes and longer lines and missed releases - so it's not all awesome... but it is actually a pretty incredible time to be collecting Disney pins. I know DPF has been here for a lot of the peaks and valleys (and will probably be here for more in the future). We love this hobby and the pin community and as long as that continues - we'll continue to try to add value where we can.

The bolded is where my lack of clarity lies. What constitutes "obvious to us?" I would expect the things that can only be learned in person, like the feel and weight of the pin, and maybe some color differences (wrong pinks and yellows are usually the most obvious in person) because a photo can change the color. But is that what you guys are thinking?

And then the next theoretical situation. If someone approves a photo-only pin, and upon receiving the pin, realizes its a fake, then what?

FWIW, in regard to the backer cards, I do think that is a very important one to make as obvious as possible. Yes, people care about them to varying degrees, but I don't think there is anyone that would never care about them on any pin at all. Even those folks hat generally don't care of them often want the "special" ones (like on a piece of history where it describes what the item is). So if there is a way to make it stand out/be clearer if one is present or not during trading, you can probably reduce your effort around that and just make sure what was sent in aligns with what was indicated and, if not, maybe notify the trader if it said it was there or not.

But to get to that point, you need to make sure everyone's data is update. I would be supportive of you requiring all of us to go back in and indicate on every "relevant" pin if there is a backer or not. Or maybe default to no backer and make us change it. And maybe on irrelevant pins (HMs and such), don't include the backer indicator at all to avoid confusion.

I have no problems with starting fresh with a clean slate and reentering traders (actually I’d prefer this option since I do a lot of outside trading) with all appropriate info needed. There are a lot of pins where I probably forgot if I have the backer or not and quickly need to add that info before the next event. For me it’s easier to just start at ground zero.
