Disney Trade Celebration 2012 - Mickey's Circus
September 7 - 9, 2012
Epcot® - World ShowPlace

Looks like Disney Event Services (AGAIN) are leaving everything about the September Trading Event "to the LAST Minute"!!! There wasn't even any Event Merchandise displayed (not even pictures) at the 3/2 WDW Trading Night. Last year, the Florida Project Event registration opened on 4/6 which, is now, less than a month away. I guess they expect us (AGAIN) to give Disney our Non-Refundable, hard-earned money without even a clue as to what pins/vinylmations are going to be offered!!! But, why should Disney care or do any better?? - we go anyway!! Unless I missed something, they don't even have the excuses of running the June DL Event or the August D23 Event, like they did last year. Mickey's Circus seems to be the ONLY Event Disney is doing this year & yet, they don't care or respect us enough (as Traders OR as Guests) to give us any advance information!!!!! I guess we just "hold our breath" and jump thru the Disney hoops when they are good & ready for our $$$$. See you in September!!

Hugs Sue are you feeling down!!! I wonder if this has something to dow tih the fact they havnt opened the area yet - maybe I am off cruising on Princess at the end of april and was hoping I wasnt going to have to hang over a computer at sea to get registered but at this rate you never know

Jacqui

Hi Jacqui, No, not "down", just disappointed that, once again, Disney leaves us hanging until the last minute!! They have had the theme since before last year's Florida Project Event AND they keep saying that Merchandise (pins) development has to be a year ahead of the Event date and yet, NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH!!! Let's just hope that they are using their time to make it a WONDERFUL Event this year!! TTFN

Hey Sue, I'm with you and hope the reason we haven't heard anything is that they are making the pins absolutely STUNNING - instead of just stunning my pocketbook.

My wife finds my requests to go to this unamusing.....she is due on August 21. Like thats good enough reason to skip.

I will be very jealous of those there while I am enjoying many sleepless nights.

Sorry Mitchell, I'm siding with your wife on this one!! If you want to sponsor someone or just want space on an RSP, let me know. Margaret, let's keep our fingers crossed that the Circus Event will be GREAT and cheap (yea right - to the "cheap" part!). Maybe your checkbook won't mind so much if the pins are spectacular??? TTFN!

Well ot wont be cheap thats for sure and as usual Sue you are right I also think its itneresting theya re up front now about the fact its an event not a pin event!! I just hope its not another year for one of those really boring tee shirts which I dont wear

Jacqui

Jacqui, I know what you mean. I'd much rather have pins (remember the "good old days" when we got a Jumbo plus a 4 pin set as the Parting Gift, pins from the Partner booths & pins for just showing up???) than a T-shirt but, at least, the one from the Florida Project makes a good sleep shirt. I hope you can register before your cruise!!! Keeping my "fingers crossed" that we hear something soon. TTFN

I was also wondering when registration would open. I don't do Facebook, but I do try to check ODPT often. If someone could POST when registration opens, I'd be very grateful.

This will be our first go around for a WDW Pin event. We have hotel booked so hoping its not a let down for us. I really want it to happen. So sad about DL not doing anything we are going any ways to have fun with pins or not :)

Good for you going on a cruise! The only thing I hang over at sea is the rail!:eek2:

Seriously though, I have never been to one of these and am thinking about it-can anybody help me with some info?

It will happen thats a given its just when registration will open!! Sorry about the seasickness thankfully I dont suffer from it. This is important for the cruise I am going on as it crosses the bay of biscay (thnk English Channel only further our that is a very rough seas place!!!!

Jacqui

Hey Jacqui!! Looks like I have 2 pins on your Wants. When has that ever happened?? I can save them for you at the Circus Event, if you'd like. TTFN, Sue

Unfortunately, there is no "info" for the Event this year but, there is info around about previous years. TTFN

Last year, I hosted a live chat in the chatroom for first time pin event attendees. The purpose of the chat was to allow people the opportunity to get all of their questions asked and answered so they could have an idea of what to expect and feel more comfortable going into the event. If the administrators/moderators give me permission, I would host another such chat (but that won't be until a bit closer to the event, which is in September).

In the interim, if you have any questions about events in general (as of yet, there is no specific information released about this year's event), please feel free to send them to me a private message and I will do my best to answer them for you.

I talked to my Mom today, and she told me that the 2nd to last page of the current Eyes & Ears (CM publication) has a full page ad for the Pin Event. Hopefully, this means that this is time the different departments have been told to start promo-ing the event. And Eyes & Ears is ready, even though the blog is not. But maybe we will get an update soon. My Mom couldn't remember this much space devoted to it in Eyes & Ears before, does anyone else?

Wow wish I could attended something like this one day. The poster looks amazing! If the pins are anything to go by I may be asking for some favours :)

I've said this before, I don't think vinyls belong at the September event on Sunday. There is no reason they couldn't have their own event on Thursday morning when they used to have the Figment/Precious Moments breakfasts. I want Public Day back, not Public 3 hours!

Of course I'll be there though, I love seeing people I don't see all the time and trading.:fig:

I think the problem with the event is the remaining chaos within the Disney departments. Steven Miller used to head up much of the event coordination -but when he moved to the Cruise Line, Disney never put a new person in his place. Instead, the group handling pins divided up the duties -hence nothing getting done.

This is really about Disney and its attempts at cut-backs within the company. Know that not only did Disney cut departments but they also merged Merchandise with Entertainment. So, there are lots of creative differences inside. The other thing that is happening -is Disney is cutting more management in order to hire entry level. The idea being 2 entry level can be found for the cost of one manger. But..of course..then no one knows anything.

Disney has always found pin trading to be a necessary evil. And people complained at the events that we now look back upon as great ones.

No excuses for Disney. Just perspective.
