I was reading an article that said while Disney pins have been around a long time, Disney officially started what is now called Pin Trading in 1999. Is this correct?

My question is... Is there a pin single or set, that officially kicked off the whole pin trading craze?

I'm yet a newbie trying to soak it all in. :anxious:

Thanks!

I don't think so. This is the only pin that comes to mind which kind of fits that criteria:

I think the reason is that pins existed prior to "Pin Trading" becoming an official thing.

Disney always sold pins but the whole pin trading/collecting seemed to really take off with the Countdown to the Millennium pin series. They came out in 1999 and there were 101 pins all together. But no Disney never kicked off the whole thing with a single pin, it seemed to take on a life of its own after that series came out in my opinion.

I just looked on Ebay. There were two for $99.00 and one for $50.00. One had the "make an offer" feature so I submitted an offer of $25.00 and got declined, lol.

There is one that ended on June 13th for $17.99 and another on the 12th for $10.40 so I'd definitely say that those prices are way too high.

People can try to sell a pin for any price really. It does not always reflect what it is actually worth or going for. You have to be proactive and shop around. Which is a good thing about these message boards, you can check on things like that. Keep checking eBay often and make sure you look at the sellers feedback to see what they have sold in the past to see if they are legit.

My first Disney pin was a coupon that i cut from the box of Kelloogs, I still have it . This is the one that started it all for me . Although it was released in 2000 . Right before the countdown pins . I also have an old Disney pin that actually holds a sticker of Scoop . Now that I think of it that was my very first pin . I never did find a pic on pin pics . So many pin traders have asked me about trading, but its an old pin & Mine !!!
