Hello.
Im a uk trader as most of you will Know , im traveling to florida next month for
a vacation to disney.
i normally put my pins in my suit case and hope for the best .
but can i take them through in my hand luggage , becasue i dont want to risk loosing them!.
but will security confiscate them from me?
im in need of advice here guys.!

thanks.... Nicole.

Yes you can fly with them in take on luggage, but be prepared for extra screening due to all the metal in the bag. just have it ready and tell them at security screening that there is a bunch of disney pins in the bag. and they may take their time "screening them" by looking at them!

I've been Stateside about 15 times with pins in tow.

The majority of the time I stored them in my main suitcase as they were only traders but the last five times I have done the hand luggage thing as I have been taking more valuable traders with me.

When flying from the UK they never took much interest. They unzipped the bags and that was it but when I did stop overs Stateside they were more official but not in a bad way.

Quite often I have found people working security in Florida and California who actually wear Disney pins on their uniform and I have often given them a pin from my bag that they liked (as long as it wasn't too rare !)

Have a great time - I'm really jealous !

Hi Nicole!! I've taken hundreds of pins in my hand luggage with no problems at all, you may get the odd question from the UK security during screening or they may do a quick bag search, just make sure that the pins are easily accessible so that they do not have to search too hard. Also if possible lay the pins out so that they do not look like a "metal block" in the bag - from the images they can see the shape of the pins.

Security at Orlando are VERY used to seeing pins in hand luggage so not a problem!

Hope this helps

has anyone taken pins as carry on between the UK and USA??

HI,

I am set to go on holiday to WDW this year, I am sure about 5 years ago I wore a lanyard on the plane, however as airport security has got even tighter and as I have more pins I wondered if anyone had taken pins, in particular a pin bag on the plane in their carry on from the UK?

I am travelling from Manchester with Thomson,

please let me know if you have and who you flew with.

The main reason in wanting to take them as carry on is I have heard some people have had them stolen from their checked baggage which I dont even want to think about!

Thanks

I have never had any problems before! I usually take between 60 and 80 pins to WDW with me, and all go in my hand luggage. At security, they usually stop the conveyor for a few seconds to take a closer look, but once they realise what they are they are fine..touch wood :D You shouldnt have any problems. :) :wavey:

Thanks Mark and Chris , this has been a big help and im going to carry them as hand luggage :).

I've always put them in my carry on - but I take them out of the bag and send them thru the security x-ray separately and then put them back in the carry-on at the gate. I've even had a few TSA people thank me for doing that because they don't have to go thru the carry-on trying to figure out what the big glob of metal is.

Putting them through seperate is the way to go, if you are queried by airport security then they will only have to search through the pins - once they see the first few then it is not a problem. try to avoid if possible "lumps" of pins as this attracts the attention, laying the pins out as in a pin bag is the best idea. The UK security will take an interest, TSA are used to this sort of activity!

We have flown with Virgin every trip no problems
