Thoughts on pin 'customization'?

Or perhaps to you, pin mutilation. I've noticed it becoming a trend lately that people are removing screenprinting and dangles from pins that are dated in order to make them less specific and more enjoyable as a collection piece. One example is Zip A Dee Doo Disney's Yzma pin seen at 14:09 in this video. She removed the text saying happy halloween on it and it honestly looks pretty good. In her D23 haul she's also planning on removing the screenprinting from the Walt and Mickey dreamstore pin. My only examples right now are from her but I swear I've seen others. I was also feeling like the new DVC pins they're releasing would probably look better without the dangle. Is this a trend you like? Would you trade for these pins if it was disclosed they were altered? I don't plan on doing any of this but from my understanding this used to be taboo, but I feel like I've seen a lot of examples of it in the past few years. Thoughts? I kind of like it depending on the pin and if the design for the date/dangle looks rushed, but I don't know if I'd ever do it. If I can find more intentional examples of this (ofc I never saved any of the ones I happened to see), I'll post them as well.
