I couldn't find a topic on this subject so i though i'd ask myself
The title may be A little confusing, I am not talking about what you use to secure the back of your pins. I am talking about the reversals of trades, and I have a few questions on how to handle them and or go about doing one.

To be clear i am not in any situation where i am asking or being asked for trade-backs, I am content with my trades and i don't think i'd ever ask someone for a trade back. But should the need arise, i'd like to know what others feel would be the best course of action.

1. Have you ever had someone ask you for a trade-back or asked for a trade-back yourself?
2. If you have been asked for a trade back, and you do not wish to do so, how would you go about telling someone that in person (as i assume doing it online is easier than face-to-face)?
3. If you do wish to do a trade back how would you go about asking for one (again face-to-face)?
4. Any additional information you'd like to add: your view on trade-backs, Words of Wisdom, etc.?

I know newer and younger traders specifically can end up having traders-remorse and on a few occasions i have overhead people asking traders for a trade-back. I thought maybe this would be a good place to discuss how others go about dealing with these issues.

I have never been asked for a trade-back, but as we all do I give the trader the benefit of the doubt to act with propriety and decorum, i.e. to be honest, correct misunderstandings, etc.

However, simply put, once both parties have received their goods and or payment, the deal is done and any new trade (or trade-back) would fall under a new agreement. So it's perfectly understandable to me that someone may not want to agree to a trade-back (new agreement) that they are not benefiting from.

As with anything, communication is KEY and one should NEVER agree to a trade you're not 100% comfortable with. My 2-cents :)

Interesting topic!

The only time I would consider it is if it had been a very lopsided trade and the person asking to trade back was new to collecting and hadn't realized what they were doing. Hopefully the more experienced collector would have been honest with the new collector and made sure the value of both pins was understood in the first place though, which would prevent the traders remorse situation in the first place.

I think it would largely depend on if the tradeback was requested for quality issues, like a damaged pin, or just buyer's remorse. It would also largely depend on the time frame when the trade was requested. I'd be more likely to do a tradeback if we *just* exchanged versus if they came back with the request at a later time.

Are you talking about wanting to trade back because the pin you received was damaged or a scrapper? or are you wanting to trade back because you just decided that you really don't want that pin now?

If it was a scrapper or damaged then you have every right to ask to trade back but if it's just because you decided that you really don't want the pin now then I guess you could ask to trade back but the other party has every right to say no because the trade was made and the pins were good so there really isn't a legitimate reason to trade back.

I always take pictures of the pins that I send out because I have heard that some people will make a trade for a pin that they already have but their pin is either damaged or is a scrapper and when they receive the pin you sent they try and say it's a bad pin and want to trade back and send you back their bad pin and keep the good pin that you sent them.

I've never had to do one, but I have both regretted doing a trade, and felt that maybe others have regretted trades with me (especially newbies, who sometimes seem both excited and unsure).

If it's an "I changed my mind" thing, I wouldn't mind doing it if it's within a short amount of time (like, they just walked away and came back). But only at that same event or PTN. Online, I wouldn't want to do one, because of postage issues.

If something proves to be damaged/fake, I would expect it to be fixed on either end.

I have regretted very few trades, though, mostly because I prefer to really think it over at the time-of-trade before going "yeah, this is good!".

I've only felt regret once, but I chose not to do anything about it, because it was my decision to make the trade and the other person didn't do anything wrong. I was just new and didn't realize how lopsided it was in their favor. Also, I knew ahead of time that the pins I was receiving were used/traded for and the ones I sent were NIP, so I couldn't complain about that either. Lastly, being a new trader, I really wanted to make a good impression and make the other person happy, so I bended a lot.

I considered it a lesson is all.

I've regretted trades after I've made them. I don't ask for trade-backs though. If I really want the pin I traded, I go look for a new one. I've sold some pins because I needed money and then regretted it later. Eventually you will find a replacement by trading for it or buying it.

I've never been asked for a trade back, or asked anyone for a trade back. If it's a fake or scrapper thigh it's within their rights I believe. I'd it's just lopsided I don't believe I'd agree to trade back.
For me I always feel the trades in person are the more lopsided cause it's hard to say no to someone in person.
If offered to send back a pin after one I sent never showed up for them, but they were super nice about it and told me to keep the pin.

I've done a trade-back before, and luckily the other trader had been completely understanding with the situation since we both did not notice the paint error on the pin until I had received it. I had offered to pay for his shipping as well since he did show the picture of the pin prior to sending..we both just didn't notice the mistake until I had the pin in my hand. luckily the person had offered me 2 different pins to choose from and so I had just sent back the paint error pin and he sent the other one.
all in all, yes, I did have some sort of a trade-back and it went really well!

It's great to hear all of your interesting theories and stories on the topic guys! I didn't expect to get so much feedback but I must say i'm pleasantly surprised.
