I recently posted in a thread here about purchasing a pin from a member of our community. Not too long after I posted, I received an email that said they had seen my reply to their post about their pin and how would I like to pay for it. This email was not from the member here and I had previously worked with this member and knew email was not the normal method of communication.

My assumption is that someone is lurking these forums, saw a reference to a purchase, and emailed hoping I would send them money thinking I was paying the correct person. I did not as I immediately knew it was not the right person, but I could see someone falling for this when working with a member for the first time.

Just wanted to warn everyone this is a thing that is happening. Stick to the forum message system or otherwise confirm that anyone asking you to pay for something from the forum here is actually who you want to pay.

It's sad how much scamming goes on these days. And unfortunate that they are watching the forum, but I guess they are watching everywhere. Definitely good advice to keep forum transactions on the forum. Thanks for sharing what happened with the community.
