What should I do??

I am trading 4 pins for 4 pins to someone and I sent theirs out 2 days ago. I just got an email from this person saying they were about to mail my pins when they noticed a border around the Mickey Heads on the back. They said it's shiny and not dull and there aren't scrapper warnings but I am still nervous about it. I asked them to send a pic of it so I can see if it looks bad. Can someone please post a pic of the back of this pin or give me more info if you have seen any fake ones?

If it turns out to be a fake what should I do since I already sent their pins?

I found some pics on ebay and it seems like some are silver and some are gold. Any info on how it's supposed to look would be greatly appreciated.

That is a tough dilemma, personally, i would send the a message back telling them about it being a scrapper but also asking for a receipt so you can see when they read it. but on another note.... I love that pin!

I have this pin, which I bought at Disneyland. The back is gold and the Mickey heads run off the edges AND it has a border. I'd like to know if it's like that on other people's who've purchased it directly at Disneyland.

I am looking at mine, I bought it from a disney outlet store. I can take pictures but not sure how to post. yes the back is odd, border and the mickeys run off the back.

I looked at mine, I bought it at WDW last march at the store where the ride lets out. It is gold and the back has a slight border around the pin, the mickey heads are not all the way off. Hope this helps!

Sounds like a gold back is good and the silver back is suspect. Wait for it and if it's a gold back, it sounds like a good one.

Thanks everybody! We emailed back and forth and they sent pics. The metal is gold and the back is as others in this thread, who got theirs directly from Disney, have described. I told them I would go ahead with the trade. Not sure what to make of a "good" pin having a border. Does this happen a lot? I have pins in my scrapper pile for this reason alone because I thought it was a definite sign of a fake. :/

The quality control has visibly dropped on a lot of pins, unfortunately. Some authentic pins have some flaws, like boarders and paint dips now. I think, because of this, it is getting more difficult to easily call a particular flaw a telltale sign of a fake pin.

If I were to point out one thing that is the most difficult thing to replicate cleanly, it would be the double outline of the pin trading seal. If you can't make out that double outline and couple it with another flaw, chances are good that the pin is not genuine.

A) This thread is in the wrong section. All such discussions should be posted in "Pin Comparison". This section of forum is getting clogged like crazy simply because no one moves threads or knows where they go (no worries, no faults since you couldn't know what you didn't know ^_^)

B) Yeah this reverse border thing is killing us since it is hard to describe in words. A border on a fake pin will be RAISED ever so slightly so that it looks like there is an extra ring of metal in at least one section of the back pattern on the edge of the pin. We have come to call these RAISED BORDERS. a border on a REAL pin is what we refer to as a REVERSE BORDER. A reverse border means that the pin has a waffle pattern on the back, but it simply stops before the edge of the pin; but, there is no raised border anywhere on the back edge of the pin.

This type of reverse border started showing up around 2011 on park pins as well as on some WDI and DSF pins. I lost a lot of hair over this one trying to explain it to people. I think they must have switched manufacturers or mold styles or something since it is showing up on so many new pins.
