I was wondering if there was anyone who was actively monitoring the feedback system over on DizPins, as a friend contacted me last night about a feedback I supposedly left for an individual, and I believe it to be bogus, i.e., they used my e-mail address and created their own:

From Jeff:

Hey Bill,

So there is a person I may be trading with, XXXX, in the XXXX. I looked at their references online and saw you traded with them. Their username on pinpics is XXXXX. I was wondering if you remember the trade and if it went well. We have had a few communication issues, but have a great trade that I want to work out, so any feedback would be great!

Thanks!

Jeff

My reply this morning to Jeff:

Jeff

I think this may be bogus. First, I think I am so far behind in my DizPins feedback that it goes back to mid last year, LOL. Second, I NEVER use Billy, always Bill!! Third, I have no saved e-mail from their transaction here in my Google Archives, but I have plenty from last year, etc. I too just got a real sweet trade offer from them Monday or Tuesday and I replied and have not heard back yet either

Bill

Basically the bolded section is what gives it away. I use Billy in my screen name as it sounds better, i.e. Broncobilly83 instead of Broncobill83, but I have not gone by Billy since I was a kid, and would never sign anything I write like that now.

I don't know if anyone actually does any monitoring anymore. But if someone can, I think your odds are best to ask over on Pin Talk, since some of the mods over there go way back and probably still have contact information for whoever can do something.

Whoaaaa! Last year someone tried to use my e-mail address to show my references as their own, but what happened to you is a first.

I don't think dizpins reference section is monitored at all. From what I heard, but that was almost 8 months back, Pinpics was trying to get the reference section. Not sure if it is still part of their plans though.

I don't really understand what the question is.

Basically, I think someone is creating fake feedback using people's e-mail addresses who might have responded to trade offers, etc, so is there someone to report that to at DizPins, since it is not owned by PinPics.

I never thought about it before, but it would be very easy to create fake references. I doubt that it's monitored (I thought the site was pretty much dormant except for the reference centre?) I don't see how Dizpins could effectively monitor it as it now exists...ideally you would have to be logged in to leave a reference, but it isn't part of the Pinpics website.

It's also easy to get email addresses by pulling up the list of members trading or wanting a pin.

Only if they choose to reveal it though. Mine does not show on PinPics like that, only when I send or respond to a request

That's annoying... especially if it's a trade that wasn't so great.
I wish you could post their Pinpics name so we can all watch out for this person but I know the mods wouldn't approve of that.

This doesn't fall within the Pinpics complaint centre, but I would send Pinpics an email telling them about it...the person who did it is committing fraud.

By the way, I'm the Jeff from Bill's example. I look at the requirements for reporting, and since I haven't mailed them yet, I can't file a complaint (or so it seems). If someone has the link to file a complaint, let me know.

Agreed...it doesn't fall within the complaint system...so I would just email them at info@pinpics.com ...the worst they can do is say they don't care....but they should care that someone is using their system to try to commit fraud (fraud does not require that the victim actually suffer a loss...even if he/she holds up their end of the trade, he/she is committing fraud by getting the trade using fraudulent references).

I think dizpins reference center did not even belong to dizpins. The reference center was owned by someone called Ralph. About a year ago Figgy explained to me and few others when we had the small event at her home. I forgot now, but for some reason reference center was maintained by this gentleman called Ralph and he did not want to merge with dizpins.

I hope that Pinpics absorbs that domain.

Sorry, I just dropped in to say Hi Bill! your terrific! hope you are doing well!

and I really hope someone is going to look into this issue, this does not sound good, if someone is using our e-mails to make bogus feedback, not good at all.
