Like the title says, news is all over the Facebook groups that they are not selling LE pin releases at the DTD Pin Trader shop, nor World of Disney. They will be for sale IN Disneyland and DCA parks only. No confirmable word on whether this is permanent or a temporary change.
So far this has only been posted regarding DLR in California. No news on if Florida plans to follow suit.

(Adding) Nothing about the shop closing, you can still buy OE pins outside of the park, this is specifically regarding LE releases. Folks went by on Thursday morning for this week’s new LE releases and were told they are no longer carrying them, and have even removed the “what’s in stock” LE case near the registers.

Does it have something to do with parking or construction in the area? Are they trying to reduce crowds in that area?

Not a local, I just wondered that as that is the reasoning for moving the pins from
Pin Central in Epcot to the camera store.

We don’t really know for sure, lots of CMs are giving multiple answers from what I’ve read. They don’t want people taking up DTD parking, they’re trying to stop some of resellers, they want more people to pay for tickets/APs, could be any or all of these reasons really.

Yeah but I find that most folks at DTD are season pass holders anyways proceeding to park or go there specifically because it’s open early and they can run off to work. I find most are the second where they rush off to work immediately after their purchase. IDK...curious how it plays out next week.

Ironically, if they try that at WDW, they'll probably lose a passholder in me. I can't go into the parks in the summer, so the discount I get at DTD is the only reason I hold the pass for the full year. If they take away what I buy at DTD, I'm not sure I go in the parks enough to make a pass worth it...

Disneyland isn't getting the attendance they expected with Galaxy's Edge. They probably want to try to get the number of people in the park up.

They could, but I don’t see the, pulling this in Florida. Disney Springs has ample (And free) parking with all those nice garages, and the LE pins seem to last weeks, if not months sometimes? Our DTD has a single very small parking lot, and our releases sell out in a couple days typically if not day of. They have a lot of problems here with the DTD parking getting filled by people they don’t deem their target audience, ie: the want people who come to dine and shop and spend hours there and end up paying a lot for the parking. I speculate they may also want to maybe track how many of each item people are buying, since if they have to come into the park, they likely have an AP to scan for the discount, etc.

True! And, in general, the re-seller issue seems much stronger in Cali. Not just for Disney, either...I think a lot of fandoms/collectors have noticed. Makes sense, LA is a huge pop culture hub.

Random factoid- We got our rental tires slashed in the DtD parking lot on our trip there. The security guard just shrugged- apparently, it was a common problem at the time? This would have been 2008-ish.

Tracking purchases may be Disney's intention, but that might not be how it ends up working. I'm sure you've heard the expression 'you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink'? They might fully intend to track how many of each item people are buying via scanning an AP for the discount, but here's the thing: Disney can offer the AP discount, but to my knowledge, they can't force anyone to take advantage of it. Just because you're in the park, doesn't mean you got in with an AP - and I doubt a CM will follow up and inquire why an offer to use a discount was declined.

Wow, I'm really sorry that happened to you. I don't know how common or uncommon that was, but neither my mum nor I ever heard of that happening to anyone before you mentioned it - and both of us basically abused our annual passes during that time. I find the security guard's reaction even more shocking; whether or not it was a common problem, I think he should have been more responsive and, I guess, more Disney-ish.

This is interesting news. Usually I stop by DTD PT on Thursdays to see what's available, since they would have the best collection of what's leftover from earlier releases. But I went straight into DLR , thinking they would be the location for 64th anniversary pins, so I missed going to PT.
DTD PT was the go to place for locals and hotel guests on the way to the parks to pu their trip lanyards and le/oe pins. Since the blockouts for APs in general, pins haven't moved to sellout status, even at DTD PT. So my 1st thought was the window release is coming out, but it's Baloo, (not knocking Baloo, but doubt he'll sellout quickly):p

I'm guessing too, as mentioned, park attendance has been low it's a way for APs that were doing a dash pu to have to use the AP to go inside to hike the attendance numbers? The pins that seem to sellout now takes several days/weeks, so maybe guests aren't complaining they made a trip out to stay and can't find the pins they wanted? Just a thought, but random one at that.

The other idea might be that there was a lineup before DTD opens that would start in the morning for PTs on Thursdays(especially for hot releases) outside the security gate at the old parking area, maybe with the DTD parking lot moving to Simba there were complaints of 2 lineups instead of 1? I'm guessing the security check for DTD parking will now get congested with hotel guests from Paradise Pier and Disneyland hotel guests on one side. Those parking at the structures would have to lineup 2x for security, 1 at structure, then go to another line outside for PT lineup, and cause confusion finding where the lineup is suppose to be. If PT no longer sells LEs than the lineup confusion is solved, and No complaints? Sometimes Disney's answer to problems/complaints is to stop offering it.
Sadly if DTD PT no longer sells LE releases, for the APs who were blocked, that was their access for their collection. Seems this makes it harder on the older collectors where their budgets are less, and just trying to stay in their hobby, just got more frustrating.

Guess we'll find out as more DPF members check it out.:stitch:

This might have been true at Pin Traders, but I was at the World cart at about 9 pm Thursday and that day's LE was still there. I think this is important enough that Disney should make an official announcement explaining it.

Yeah, we were kind of disgruntled at his non-response, too. Never had anything like that happen before, or since. Exactly what you want to happen when you're on vacation, right? I'm not even sure what the point was...pretty sure we didn't accidentally cut anyone off or anything, either, because at least that makes sense, even if it is crappy. Plus, like I said, he wasn't really surprised.

I'll have to google it and see if it was a thing, or just random.

Wouldn't the line up confusion just shift to inside the park and to security lines ? I don't think that people, especially resellers, will give up because pins are no longer sold outside the park. Or even if they no longer take returns, although that might be more effective against resellers.
And just in general, this sounds like another questionable decision, whatever reason they give, in a long line of questionable decisions. They haven't gotten in front of it by officially explaining it, leaving different employees to guess different reasons for it. It might even be temporary, or perhaps just the decision of a manager or something that is blown out of proportion by the spreading of rumors on the internet. I can't tell you how many times at Disneyland--and elsewhere too--where one employee says something can't be done because of policy, but another one just does it without question.

They won't force the discount no, but even after the last wave of people who have gotten caught for reselling, I haven't seen any influx in people NOT using their discounts :p The average person isn't going to think about not using it

That is surprising, since people on FB were saying they could not find LE pins at any DTD location. I wasn't there, so just trying to pass on the messages.

True the confusion of what 1 CM says vs another hasn't helped answer any questions. But it's also because there's constantly new hires, and as newbies they're told policy, not till they've been there awhile do they know the ins and out. Probably too, not many CMs understand how serious pin trading is! :p
Hopefully, either this is a rumor, frustrated comment, or strategy to make up for poor tix sales. What Disney should be concerned about, especially since most releases aren't selling out as before, is not to lose their core buyers. September should reveal whether the blockouts stopped the mass pin buying, or pin collectors/traders have moved to the lower LE pins.

The line up started for DTD PT when a high response was expected. Security didn't allow lines on property till opening of area, so a lineup started outside the security gate area, where the valet dropoff use to be. It kept line orderly and didn't help much for cutting. This usually didn't affect the park lines. Most people going to PT, were only going there as quick pu before work, didn't have APs or if they did, were blocked out, or didn't want to deal with crazy in the park. Usually by the time you're done, the pins are sold out in 1st hour throughout resort, like the windows.

If this is a prank, as they use to do with PTD flips, it's summer, maybe someone is bored and trying to have less competition at PT? We just need to be ready for anything at this point, Disney calls the shots and we never know till it's done.:(

Agree with everything you said, although I do feel that resellers either have APs or could get one if it's that important to them. I have signature pass, so my interest in this is that I think Disney should explain these things ahead of time, and realize as you said that a lot of the core buyers of pins like the convenience of DTD. I do feel for the individual collector who can't afford an AP--IMO--they're the ones hurt by this, not resellers. If it's even true.

I agree. A official post on their blog is warranted. This is causing a big speculation mill, which is bad for them.

I agree with many of the Opinions above.

Lots of changes going on, especially with the new parking structure.

Just think what a NIGHTMARE the building of that new hotel would have been.

If theres a flaw in the pin , surely they have to accept the return ?
Not sure you have the same law in the states but ours in the UK basically mean it has to be "fit for use" so since it's damaged they'd have to exchange or refund .
In those cases within the 30 day return period it should be fine to return.
But, as ItzaPinfan has mentioned there's some people that buy and return A Lot of pins at 1 time. Hopefully not often, but seeing the transaction makes me wonder why did they buy so many? I know it's easy to get carried away, but still hard to watch.:(

True resellers would have APs or there's no profit. Agreed, it does hit the non APers hardest. Hopefully they'll be able to find help.
As far as Disney making sense or an official statement-that would make too much sense. I've learned through the years, Disney doesn't make statements regarding pins. Things just happen! Pin trading tables and areas is an example, of how Disney announces, they just go away.(meaning the official locations, traders have unofficially been able to find locations and not be asked to move ) .....:(
