Suggestions for Solving Disputes
So it seems that lately when I am lurking here, thereseems to be more disputes threads than useful ones. While there is always goingto be drama (it is the internet, right?), if you have an issue with someone andyour goal is to solve the problem, why don't you try thesesteps out:
1. Talk to the person privately. Be respectful, but fairly state what the issueis. Make sure you let the person know what your expectations were and why theyhave not been met. Before you send that private message, wait a few minutes.Allow yourself to disconnect from the issue for a while, and read that messageagain. Ask yourself, "Have I been disrespectful to another person?"
2. If there is no response, or if no solution has been found, find a mediator.Try to find someone you trust and that you think the other person can trust.Explain the situation to him or her. Ask them to talk to the other person tofind out their view on the issue. Ask them to do their best to come to anunbiased solution.
3. If that does not solve the problem, contact a moderator. It isnot a moderator's job to solve disputes. In clear, concise language, explain what the issue is and what steps you have taken sofar. Explain to the moderator that you would a solution that works for allparties. Realize that they may or may not be able to assist you. They have reallives and deal with more drama than most of us probably know about.
4. If that does not solve the problem, and you feel like you must tell othersof the issue (to warn them, whatever). Post a very respectful, but clearmessage. State in your message that your goal is to solve the problem. Avoidname-calling. Avoid unnecessary details or information that cannot be easilydocumented. Do not accuse others of conspiracies without ironclad proof thatyou are willing to publicly post.
Please remember, this is a place for all of us. Many of us do not care for thedrama. We all realize that things happen that make people upset at others. Please realize that you do not have a right to inflict your dislike of anotheron all of us. Whine in private, when you are done whining, come talk about yourexcitement of pins with us.
By all means, if you do not care about solving a problem and want to causedrama, follow the steps below"
1. Whenever someone wrongs you, immediately start a public post detailing theevent.
2. When talking about another party, resort to name-calling.
3. Make sure you include all past history with this person, whether you wereinvolved in that history or not.
4. Feel free to accuse the other person of nefarious behaviors.
5. When accusing others, make sure you do not post any conclusive informationto back up your accusations.
6. Hijack every thread possible to point out the deficiencies in others.
If you do the above, you are not only assured to make people groan every timethey see your avatar in a post, you will also find less enjoyment in this hobbyyour puport to love.
Love you all!
