Hello! I’m a SoCal native now living in Texas - I’m in North Dallas (so far north that the Dallas folk pfft at my Dallas reference). New to collecting, starting with Disneyland attractions and Pluto. Happy to be here, and enjoying the comradery I see in all the various threads. It’s refreshing to have a place to escape from the noise of the real world!

Thank you! Trading makes me nervous, not sure why (nightmares of scrappers dancing in my head). My newbie collection is small, but I’ve got 6 I’ll take with to trade (I’m sure that’ll be plenty)(ha!).

Ha! I’ll be over at the In-N-Out waving with my grilled cheese (ketchup & spread only). The first month I moved here, I’m pretty sure I ate at INO five days a week. (though I do love the Whataburger breakfast burrito.)

Thank you! I love being able to block out the noise and escape to a land of pins. So many shiny pretty happy people! I noticed the chatroom, is that for random chats? I wondered what it was! (I’ve gone exclamation point crazy - I’m re-reading Harry Potter and, dang, JK loved her exclamation points! Wizards! Chocolate! Potions! Apparently, I’m easily influenced.)

haha I noticed that I've been using a lot of exclamation points lately too. I can't seem to write a normal professional email anymore xD

Anyway, yes! Just normal ppl talking about random things. Sometimes we talk about pins, weather, movies, tv shows, Disney news, regular news, stuff that's happening on the forum.. pretty much anything is game as long as it's not offensive/ inappropriate. DISCLAIMER: there is a chat log/archive, so whatever you say there is recorded haha

There is also a weekly movie discussion chatroom that is hosted by @MerlinEmrys . He's doing a 52 week challenge if you're interested in doing that: The Disney 52 Animated Challenge: Year-Long Activity! NOW PLAYING: The Lion King

HA! I’m an editor by day, and I say “watch the exclamations” a dozen times a month, and then I type an email and it’s nothing but love! Wonderful! Perfect! (And I totally know they are thinking, ahem, why the exclamations?!) I’ll pop over to the chatroom at some point and check it out. That’s quite a movie challenge! (See? It’s like I don’t even care.)

Aloha and Welcome! It's understandable that trading would make you nervous because of everything you read, but you can take precautions to minimize the risks. First, always use common sense: if a trade offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don't feel that you need to accept every offer to trade that comes your way: a politely worded 'no thank you' is just as acceptable a reply as an 'yes, I'd like to make this trade, please.' Don't be afraid to ask questions of the other trader about his/her pins - and never accept an offer unless you're 100% comfortable with it. And don't worry about your collection being small; we all started with small collections. Give it time, your collection will grow before you know it.

Finally, and the most important: don't forget to have fun!
 
Hi K_Lynn. Welcome! I’m also a Southern California native now living in Texas. The preferred term here I believe is “transplant.” My wife and I are near Houston. We’ve made a few trips up to Dallas and we love it there. The Omni hotel is the bomb! I swear I eat INO at least once a day when we’re visiting Dallas. Not sure if you like Hockey but the American Airlines Center Stadium for the Stars is pretty awesome. My wife and I are huge Ducks fans so we go see games there when we can.

Once again Welcome! Theres a lot of great people here and a lot of great information.

Aloha! I’m most nervous about approaching someone. There are so many tales of the CM lanyards and pin boards (where be these boards? Just out in the store?). This first trip to DLR as a pin person is going to be a different experience, I’ll probably notice all kinds of things (like pin boards and lanyards). I’ll be the person nervously clutching my four pin traders... thank you for the encouragement!

Hey! I’m a location-based sports fan: LA Dodgers when I lived there (born and raised), then lived in Detroit Metro (huge Red Wings fan, hard not to be in Hockeytown), and now Cowboys fan (Dak!). We go to the Rangers games when they play Angels (not quite the same), see the Stars when they play the Wings, and Cowboys when we don’t mind paying a fortune for terrible seats. You must be devoted to drive up here - I’ve been to Houston twice and it’s a loooong drive!

There probably are other places that can do it it’s just on the “secret” menu. Also most other places probably just aren’t asked to do that very often so when they get one person who asks they’re taken back by it. They probably think to themselves, “Who would order a cheeseburger without the burger patty? What’s the point?” Clearly they’ve never had the deliciousness that is the INO Grilled cheese.

Eh, depends on where in Houston you’re driving from. Houston is huge. It takes us about 4 hours to drive from Houston to Dallas from where we are located. It was longer driving from CA to Texas! That was a 24 hour drive and I’ve made that trip 3 times. We make frequent day trips to Waco and Dallas from Houston. When we lived in SoCal we made frequent trips to Las Vegas to visit family so a 4 hour drive is normal to us. I’d rather drive from Anaheim to Las Vegas any day over Anaheim to Los Angeles.

People complain here all the time about traffic on 59 in Houston and I politely respond with, “you’ve clearly never been stuck in traffic in Los Angeles.” At least when there’s traffic here in Texas it is still moving generally. Traffic in LA is either stop and go or completely stand still.

Woo! Another hockey fan in Texas! And Dak is a beast! I agree with the baseball games not being the same. We see the Astros play the Angels whenever we can here at Minute Maid Park and then I’ll go back to Angel Stadium and it’ll be night and day. Minute Maid is fantastic but there’s something nostalgic about being at the stadium you grew up going to. My wife and I grew up in OC so we root for the Angels but the rest of our families grew up in LA so they’re all Dodgers fans. I’ll let it slide that you’re a Dodgers fan. As long as you’re not a Kings fan we can play nice.

Many of the cast members are wearing lanyards. What is considered good pin etiquette is really just common sense manners: don't reach for the lanyard or stare at it, but instead ask the cast member if you can see his/her pins. And of course, never grab a pin off the lanyard; ask to trade (or politely decline) and hand your pin to the cast member with the back on (unless otherwise requested). It's really very easy and most cast members will be more than happy to help you along the way.

The pin boards usually are either on the counter or behind it. If you ask nicely, most cast members will be more than happy to bring them out for you. They also might be found in the gift shops and behind the registration desks at the hotels. Sometimes they might have pin books in addition to or instead of pin boards. The same trading principles generally apply - no more than two trades per guest per day.
