Hello!

I'm just starting out on my pin trading journey, and hoping to learn.

I learned about this community from watching youtube videos. I started with one or two, but quickly found myself going down a bit of a rabbit hole the past several months watching all of the collections, events, unboxings and pinmail videos that you all have filmed. I guess I finally decided to take the plunge!

Hello, and welcome! What do you like to collect?

Thank you everyone for the welcomes!

What I collect: the pretty ones. Only the pretty ones. (LOL!)

To be honest, I'm still trying to narrow down what I should collect. (My eyes being MUCH bigger than my wallet). I started thinking about it in terms of films or characters, but I like too many of them to jump in all at once.

Realistically, I'll probably end up being one of those collectors who has a lot of Squirrel! moments where I get distracted by something eye-catching. And then l'll have to retcon based on what my revealed preferences end up being, rather than being able to say ahead of time where I'll actually go.

But I'm thinking maybe I'll start with the Vinylmations, T-shirts, ducks, trashcans, and the cast outfit icons, since I like the abstract color nature of those, and since they appear to be plentiful enough that it's possible to get into them without having a lot of heavy-hitters to trade. And then maybe move into hidden mickeys, muppets, marvel and the supporting character/squad goals/group pins as I work to narrow down which other IP/characters should be my main focus.

So as you can tell, it's all still a bit vague and subject to change as I go along.

I think it's a great idea to go for broad focus and contained sets as you start. I'm sure your favorites will start to stand out in time. I try and keep myself very strict to my collection because I also have a 'I love everything' mentality lol

Welcome to the forum!

Just a quick word of advice (from someone who could have used it when I started collecting more. . . .); the influencers who make pin videos have way, way more access to special events & extremely limited pins than the average pin trader does . . . & a seemingly unlimited budget. So don't set your expectations by that!

There are plenty of wonderful, more widely available pins; & a collection built slowly over time will have more meaning.

and especially thanks for this. I know that I'll have to figure out a pin budget that balances growth of my collection with things like eating (LOL!), and then stick to it.

Hopefully I'll figure out a rhythm that balances the joy of watching with the joy of having them in hand.
