DPF Development HELP! Help us test the DPF "Public" Pin Trading Board!
Wow! We weren't aware this was being put together...

Exciting that the DPF community is getting a custom trade alternative experience. Happy to have the Pin & Pop IDs and data power this ( and many in the DPF community are the ones who have graciously contributed that data to P&P in the first place). I would only ask that photos for this not be used from Pin & Pop and instead be uploaded for listings and offers directly by the photo owners. If the DPF users here have originally uploaded those photos to P&P and they give permission for use in the DPF Trading Board then absolutely grab them from our site and upload them here. Photo-sharing and photo ownership is something our Mods (which include DPF members) and our users have voiced concern over and I want to make sure we're honoring that.

To be clear, we are always in favor of seeing innovation happen for the larger pin trading community... "a rising tide lifts all boats (that don't have compromised hulls)". We appreciate the DPF community and the collaboration we've had. Let us know how we can help!
Hi Chris,

This is fair and understandable given that images are going to be the most egregious consumption of data, especially with the current implementation where metadata is cached for 30 days, but images are still being hotlinked.

I’ll look into correcting this and forcing the user upload piece. Ultimately, using real photos makes for a better/more honest experience in the end, anyway.

For clarification, regarding the P&P “pinformation” cards we just implemented (example below — when users post a P&P link here in the forum it just renders the card inline with the pin’s metadata) —

Mabel
Pin Mabel
Series Alamo Drafthouse Cinema- Hoppers Mystery
Rarity Uncommon
Origin Disney Licensed
Edition Limited Release
Release Date 2026-03-07

are these still okay to use the image & hotlink, or should I make a change to this to at least cache a copy locally, so your CDN isn’t getting hammered every time a card loads?

At least for this feature (which only exists here on a relatively “slow” forum) id like to find some middle ground, because the visual aspect is a core feature of the cards.

Finally I (and I’m sure others,) really appreciate the willingness and openness to collaboration and sharing that P&P has had, which is a breath of fresh air compared to being so stifled in the past in what we could/could not create.

This has been an idea that’s been swirling around for quite a while and is really meant to just be an alternative experience to Trade Arcades and other online trading events, and wasn’t meant as a competitor or to “step on anyone’s toes”, so to speak. Whether it does/doesn’t get used in the future is fine, it was/is still a fun project.

Cheers!

I put in a tracking number for a package that should deliver tomorrow to see what tracking looked like moving through USPS, but the tracking isn’t showing up at all. I copied directly from my USPS tracking page and it’s the same numbers.
on the backend, i can see that this listing's tracking info shows as "out for delivery" -- when it changes status, the trade should automatically mark itself as "complete" 🙂 (it's still in "pending"), after which you'll be allowed to test leaving feedback.

My two cents comes from someone who uses no other social media platform except DPF and PinandPop. I formerly enjoyed Pinpics but it got way too confusing for me:

I would still use it if it was required to upload my own photos of pins, but I guess to me the ease of it in every day trading format is kind of a fun idea for those of us who have schedules that can’t keep up with the trade arcades. The trade arcades look amazing and I love the new breath it’s given to the pin community. This comes off as a completely different avenue of a pin trading experience to me and I love that I get notified with trade opportunities 🤩

I’ve been loving seeing how this develops and I do hope it’s something that can be a fun complimentary trade avenue in the future of all the other great things I’ve observed from PinandPop and DPF 🥰❣️

I think it's OK to use the image and hotlink in the card. It's more of a "media embedded link" than a full blown application using potentially hundreds or thousands of images. I let you know if I get any pushback from any of the original photo owners.

We've starting putting together a data sharing agreement as more in the wider community are wanting to build cool things and we'd like to help with data APIs - but the one piece that seems to cause the most concern with our contributors is the use of their images. They've given us permission to use them but they don't necessarily want to see them on sites or in apps that they didn't explicitly agree to. I get it - we've taken down lots of images that made their way onto our site without the owners consent. So for now, our data agreement excludes photos from being used. (again, if the original owners are here and give permission than grab them from our site).

AI is changing the speed at which these applications can be built and there are some really cool ideas out there that just need some good pin data to make them fly. Hopefully, the pin community is in for some exciting times (it feels like we could all use some more positive pin experiences too)!

RE: image ownership -- makes complete sense and totally understandable.

and I agree; by this point, about 80% (or more) of the codebase is generated, and the project has given me a really good feel of workflow with regard to agentic development. The pace at which development can happen now is insane given my background/"day job" is huge-scale enterprise ERP systems in the public sector where things move at a glacial pace, so this has been an exciting and engaging project, if nothing else.

If you've been actively testing — I just want to give a huge "thank you!" to you all.

just a heads up that all test listings, offers, and trade history will be wiped after April 12th
before we go through a second round of open testing.

Your wishlist(s) will carry over, so no need to worry about that, but all listings, offers, and other data will be wiped for this second round.

If you've been meaning to poke around and try the trade offer/counteroffer flow or photo uploads, now's a great time before the reset!

As always, drop a reply here if you run into anything weird.

Are you still testing this? I can play around on the board again if you are in another round of testing.
just seeing this — been out of town for a few days.

Yes, absolutely — i wiped everything so we can all test again since a lot has been added since the first time around.

Also if a trade is completed in person, is there a way to bypass the tracking number and mark it as completed on both ends?

Sorry, lots of questions as I play around. Is there a time limit to respond to a trade offer before it expires? And/or can we have the option of a time limited offer? Like only offer the pin if it’s accepted in 7 days then it expires, so I can have the freedom to trade here between in person events.

Is there a way to withdraw an offered pin once it’s been offered in a trade or do we have to wait for it to be accepted and then back out?

I can't find where to submit tracking. When I click the green "submit tracking" it links back to the pin offer overview page. It is a circular process with no clearly visible place to enter tracking.

Argh and I wish I didn't have to go to tapatalk to share photos.

My aim with the trade flow is to be as automated/hands off as possible and trade completion is based on the tracking status, but Admins/mods can mark trades as shipped/received on the back end

Help Us Test the New DPF Public Pin Trading Board!

I've been working on something exciting behind the scenes, and I think we're ready to let the community take it for a spin!

Introducing the DPF Pin Trading Board: a dedicated virtual trading app built just for our community!

If you've ever walked up to a trading board at a park — or spotted one at a Box Lunch or Hot Topic — you already know exactly what this is supposed to feel like. A corkboard covered in pins, open to anyone passing by, where you can see what's up for trade at a glance and make your move. That's the experience I'm (kind of) trying to bring online for us.

Forum threads are great, but they've never quite captured that feeling. Posts get buried, trades get lost in PM's…the usual. The DPF Pin Trading Board is ann attempt to fix that — a dedicated virtual trading board built specifically for our community, designed to feel (almost) like the real thing.

Before we go live, I need your help to kick the tires and tell me what you think!

This is an open beta, and we want real DPF members putting it through its paces.

---

What is it?

The Pin Trading Board is a standalone trading app at pinboard.disneypinforum.com that lets you post pins you have for trade and browse what other members are offering — all in one clean, dedicated space.

The best part? It's fully connected to your DPF account.

Just log in with your existing DPF credentials — no new account, not another password to remember — you already have access through your DPF forum account!

What can you do on the DPF Pin Board?

  • 📌 Post trades — List pins you're offering and browse what the community has available
    • NOTE: Currently pins are only able to be added for trade via Pin & Pop ID. The text "search" features during listing your trade are currently not fully working or working as you'd expect. By default, text search will only search for pins that have been listed for trade, which is by design for this version.
  • 💬 Express trade interest — A single click notifies the other trader via Private Message right here on DPF!
  • ✅ Accept or decline trades — Respond to incoming trade interest (partial trades supported)
  • 📤 Input tracking information — insert tracking information for your trades and track your pin mail right from your trade listings
  • 🎯 Build your Wishlist — Add pins you're hunting so others know what you're after

---

A note on this testing phase:

This is an open beta, so a few important things to keep in mind:
  • All data posted during testing will be wiped once the feedback period concludes. There may be additional round of testing between data wipes.
  • The board is still actively being developed — you may run into errors or rough edges
  • …and that's exactly why we need you here!
If something breaks, behaves oddly, or just feels off, please report it in this thread. Your feedback will directly shape the final product.

---

How to participate:

Head over to pinboard.disneypinforum.com, log in with your DPF account, and start exploring.

Treat it as a "trading simulator" during this testing period and go wild!

You should test out posting a trade, browse listings, update your wish list, send some trade offers to other members — send me (Cicada) a trade offer while you're at it!

I'm intentionally not dropping a how-to guide here — I want to see how the experience feels when you just dive in.

If something isn't intuitive, that's feedback I need to hear. Please test all functions and try to break it or find anything that isn't working as intended.

Drop your thoughts, bugs, and suggestions right here in this thread. This is your trading board — help me build it right. 📌

— Cicada
I would love to see an ISO tab so I can browse through other’s lists and hopefully find something to trade. Thanks!
