I agree with the poor response rate, but even worse is when I respond to an automated request in the affirmative or with a counter-offer, and get no response from THEM! Why did they bother in the first place?
 
My $.02 on this. I used to really really try to respond to each and every request. Now I will usually skim thru them and try to send immediate replies to the ones I know I am not interested in. However, my guilty secret is that I will save the ones I am interested in to look at later and decide if I really want to trade. Then, I get distracted with life and it is a week later or ever longer. Then I feel stupid responding and think the trader has probably already either traded their pin or gotten the one they wanted. So, in essence it is usually the ones I am actually thinking about doing that wind up getting forgotten. I guess I am my own worst trading enemy....
 
Whenever I have sent out requests before I have never recieved, a "No sorry I don't want to make this trade" courtesy reply, I have only ever had two replies off pinpics (1 was a trade and 1 was a trade that never happened in the end due to them sending the request and then trading the pin).

Apparently on some email adresses Pinpics goes to the spam area and therefore sometimes people may not know they've had a request.
Maybe if you add a message on to the request saying "Please let me know if you would like to make this trade" or something like that then people may be a bit more likely to respond :)

I do, but I receive TAs so infrequently, I try my best to have a high trade success rate.

I think if I have an overall success of sent TAs of 1% that's being generous. I have had spurts of frequent answers and/or trades made, but on the whole... a lot of crickets.
 
I make counter offers and suggest different pins, but that rarely evokes a response. Being a Mansion collector there are a few that seem to have a lot of the older pins that will almost never reply, but I have gotten a reply once or twice in two years, lol. Whenever I get a pin that's on their list I try again...It's frustrating at times, but I don't ever have the view that someone "has" to trade with me.
As I get requests I typically respond but I've been lax at best lately being a bit turned off due to a lack of success and no replies usng the TA. I have one person that continually tries to offer an le 1500 for my DLRP PTN pins I have for trade, and I usually ignore those as random wild shots in the dark. What I do hate is when people get mad if you don't want to trade...If I send out a request or get multiple requests, I pick the best one, I get this when I reply to a trade offered to me, knowing they most likely made a similar offer to several individuals, so why do people seem to ty and thrust the trade through? Do you guys reply to an initial trade offer with your full mailing address and everything? I prefer to agree to the terms and then send out the address after everything is clear between myself and the trader...
 
I always respond to offers, but usually only get 5%-10% replies to the offers that I send out. If I send out 100 offers, I usually get around 7 replies...of those, maybe 1 or 2 trades happen. I've also noticed that I'm making far less trades these days. Granted, I'm trying to get some harder to get pins, but I'm also offering up some harder to get pins...so I'm a bit confused. It comes down to how each individual values their pins. I wonder if higher postal fees are partially to blame? I usually send out requests on Friday or Saturday nights figuring that most people have more time on the weekends to pin trade.

Everyone on this forum enjoys pin trading. Yes, we all like to get pins that we're looking for, but I'm sure some of us (me included) like to trade, just to trade :). I have several pins that I'd trade for pins of equal trade value that I don't want to keep, but use for another trade. Maybe the pins that I can trade for can help me get the pins that I want? I wish we had a way to post (like pinpics) all of our pins that we're just interested in trading for anything of fair value back.

Or how about this as an example? We start a post and title it "$35 pins for trade". Since most of us go by ebay prices for our harder to get wants/traders, you post a $35 pin that you have for trade and list some examples of $35 pins that you're looking for. This could open the door for trades to occur. Think about it. Person A has a pin that person b wants...person b has a pin that person c wants...person c has a pin that person A wants... 3 people just made a trade! We could do this for $50 pins, $75 pins, $100 pins, etc. Any interest?
 
For those who are interested I would like to share a trade I just received that shows why I send courtesy replies.

Last week I received a trade offer in which he wanted my LE250 Haunted Mansion pin set that originally sold for $90 for a LE1500 pin that sold for $13. Yes I could have ignored the trade offer and done nothing. He did not have anything else in his traders that I wanted so since the trade offer was so lopsided I simply replied "no thanks" and thought I was done with it. The next day he replied back and appoligized for the grossly uneven trade and made me a counter offer. He had looked at my wants and found a pin in his collection that I wanted (mind you he didn't even have that pin listed as a trader) So, to make a long story short we ended up with a multitrade. He got the set plus a LE stitch pin, and I received a LE100 pin (which was one of my holy grails) plus an Alice piece of movie history pin and several other smaller traders.

The point I am making here is that if I had never sent a courtesy reply I would not have been able to make this trade. Plus I now have a new trading friend in Florida that I hope to meet when I am out at WDW in December.

I know this is probable rare and I was indeed lucky.

I am in no way trying to preach how to do trades. I'm just thinking about all the potential trades out there that are being missed because of lack of communication. Remember, if you send no reply at all, that is exactly what you get back in return...nothing.

1/46 responses in a 24 hour period. The person who replied kindly did say he hope we could trade in the future though. I haven't use TA for a month or so cause I kept getting rejected. So those are the results for this month I suppose.

I think that it is really a 50/50 split here. Some people want the "no thanks" email and some people don't. So if you are new or someone who doesnt have a strong stance one way or the other it is hard to know what to do. For me sometimes I send the no thanks and sometimes I dont. It depends on a lot of things - whether I know the person, whether I have traded with them before, whether or not they are on here (DPF), and most of the time how much time I have when I am checking the requests.

For example Gloomy has sent me a few requests. Sometimes I reply to him - and sometimes I don't reply. Since he is my friend I don't always feel like I have to reply. I KNOW my reply or lack there of will not change our trading relationship.


Also If I havent checked my email for a couple of days I only respond if I am interested . . . . because otherwise it seems pointless. Also sometimes when I get a CRAZY lopsided trade like a HM for an LE200 - I don't feel the need to reply.

I completely understand the fact that this is how you get your "trading" interaction and honestly I am sure I would do the same thing if I did not live close to a park. Just my own opinion - try not to take people's lack of responses as a personal disrespect/lack of interest. Or let it push you away from TA. You just never know what is going on in peoples lives at the exact moment requests are recieved. :0)

bwschultz - Airtight communication on all fronts like that definitely has its advantages, one of which is great trade experiences like the one you recounted. I recognize that by not sending "No thanks" messages, I eliminate any chance of me snagging trades in those situations. Everybody has different techniques, and it's cool yours paid off like that (and likely paid off in similar situations before as well).

OMG I am sooo glad to see Im not the only one that does this! I'll want to check it all out & will forget about it & then think its been too long.
 
ITA, with the state of how slow TA pin trading is lately, it is unlikely that the requester would have traded their pin away.

It never hurts to ask. Just apologize for the delay, and I'm sure they won't hold it against you... after all, they (presumably) want your pin. :)
 
The power of polite communication...

I received a TA this morning ( second one this week :wiggle: ), and it was for a pin I really wanted...

Of course I replied promptly with a yes to the offer. It seemed a little lopsided in my favor, however, I figured the person had read what they were offering and was trying to complete a set.

Shortly after, I received an email, declining my reply... I was a bit confused since the trader made the offer to me. At this point, I could have gotten a little aggravated ( :mad: ), but I stopped and thought "what if they wanted all of the offered pins in trade?" ( :dunno: ) ... I was actually pretty cool with that thought, I really want this pin... So I replied to the turndown asking if the person still needed the pins they TA'd me for, that we could perhaps work out another deal. :x:

Sure enough, I received a positive reply. After working out some details, the trade is on. A two for one trade, and I think we'll both be happy with this one. :bigthumb:

Nice to see good friendly pin communication work out to make for good trading! :hsd:
 
I usually get responses for the trade requests, as for receiving TAs I get maybe 2 a day. For example yesterday I had like 15 responses to my requests, most of them acceptances. And when people usually accept, I look at our matches and try to work out multi trades.
 
"I feel your pain. Thats the beauty of the DPF forum though in my opinion. Try to trade with people on the forum and you will almost always get some kind of response and almost everyone knows your name so I would expect you to get a response."

^Dan... I have been having less luck, even here. This past week, I've PM'd two different people... one who started a thread stating that they specifically WANT trade offers and neither one responded to me. Maybe it's just me?

Back on topic... I used to always, always, respond to TA emails. Then I started reading on here how some people prefer not to receive a "no" response. So I'm unsure as to respond or not. If they've taken the time to add something in the comment box, I'll respond. I did respond to one yesterday as it was a totally upside down trade. I was polite, but let them know that their offer was unfair to me. If they were to ask me to look at their trades, I would, as that often results in some sort of trade.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, but the limited comment box is better than none at all, imho. :)
 
I received a trade offer that amused me two days ago. The trader is offering me a DSF pin that will be released next week for any one of a list of abut 12 pins. So I chose one of the pins from the wanted list and accepted the offer. Not a word from this person. So a day later, I decide to put out a TA for the DSF pin and chose 4 more pins, knowing it would get to the trader that did not reply to me. His pin was LE 300 and a pin to be released. My pins LE 250 and have established wants/trades. So it was totally fair, especially, since the trader had offered the DSF pin to me for these very same pins. Even with all that, and lots of references on Dizpins for me, nothing! Go figure this one.:sad:

Did they really want any of the 12 pins they offered their pin for?:(

I'm giving up on pinpics and trading altogether I think. I'm going to just buy my wants from here or ebay. Ive sent out 114 trade requests through pinpics and probably about 10 actual emails and have only gotten 6 trades. If I were offering crap pins for expensive LEs I would understand, but I feel they are fair trades...100LE pin for the same, or even for a 250 LE. Rack pins for rack pins, dumbo pins for dumbo pins...no one wants to trade.
 
I was just thinking and it has occurred to me that with easy to get open edition or HM pins, they are really not worth trading unless it is a multi-trade. I sent out three trades yesterday....postage with DC on each one was $2.51 in addition to the LBE $.50. There are a lot of genuine OE and HM pins on eBay starting at $.99. A lot of them get no bids or just one. Say you are able to buy the pin for $.99 (or even less). If shipping is $2.00 or less, why would anyone want to trade when they could buy it, have it delivered to their home, not have to make a trip to the PO, AND not trade away one of their pins.

Of course, this only applies to low end trades but I think it makes sense.

Maybe some of the non-responders don't feel like the trade is worth the time, energy, or expense. I don't know...just thinking.
