Welcome to the 8th week of DPF 10th anniversary giveaways. I’ve been a member here for 7½ years, and it’s been an amazing time.

Here are the rules to follow:

    1. You must be a member of DPF, so don’t be a guest and join!
    2. You must give me your name and shipping address.
    3. If you don’t want to be included in the prize pool, make sure to mention it.
    4. You have until Monday, August 17, 2020, 8:00pm Disneyland time, to make a post in this thread, if you want to enter for a prize.

Since it’s the 10th anniversary, there are 10 prizes. Okay, not really, because there are more than 10!

US shipping is free. International shipping is also free; however, I will be sending through First-Class Package International Service (which may take weeks or longer), and tracking is only available to Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Hungary, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, and Switzerland. If rules forbid me sending out a package with no tracking, then sorry to those who don’t live in those countries.

On to the game! I love Disney facts and trivia. I would like you to share your favorite or any interesting Disney fact or piece of trivia.

    I have 2+ to share.

#1 – My company sent me to the Grand Floridian in WDW for a conference last year (lucky me). Although I have visited GF a number of times, this particular trip allowed me time to explore the hotel more thoroughly. I love the Commander Porter’s shop that’s on the 2nd floor and geared toward guys. There was a sign around there that had Mickey Mouse and “est. 1929”. But wait, wasn’t Mickey Mouse born in 1928? Yes, that is true, but because this was a store, 1929 is the earliest instance of an item featuring Mickey Mouse was created, so the first merch of Mickey was only in the next year. I talked for so long with the CM at that store. Too bad the store is now permanently closed (I think).

#2a #2b #2c – I love it when CMs you’re trying to trade with ask if you want to answer trivia. Yes, all the time. I mentioned I love the movie Aladdin, and the question posed to me was this: In the song, Prince Ali, how many purple peacocks does he own? I was singing the song, but just couldn’t arrive at the lyric or the number.
The CM gave me another question: name at least 5 “other names/descriptions” attributed to Aladdin (the character). I said:
Al, Prince Ali Ababwa, Diamond in the Rough, Street Rat, Prince Abooboo.
Wow that was harder than I thought, but I got to pin trade; she would have traded anyways. Well I can do a 2nd pin, so here’s the last question: Name a movie under the Disney umbrella that is 1 word and has all 5 vowels in it. That was tough, and she had to give me clues, but the answer is:
There may be other answers, but this is the answer she gave.

All members who provide a Disney piece of trivia will be entered into a random number generator. You can only enter once in this giveaway, but feel free to share as many facts as you want.

The 1st place winner can choose one pin from the D23 2017 Disney Designer Collection. See below (one pin is unavailable.)

Those who place 2nd to 13th place can choose one item from the following:

Each mask is a separate prize; both are large size. Haunted Mansion mask is from World of Disney. 101 Dalmatians mask is from vendor at Frank & Son. The Mickey Mouse plush and mug are one prize together.

But that’s not all! Because it’s the 10th anniversary, the top 10 people in the US can also get a button or magnet from TonkaToy! See her thread here: For Sale: - Disney Pin Forum 10 YEAR Button Magnets & Pin Backs

I have already paid her for shipping in the US for the lucky 10, and she will send your button/magnet to you directly. If you already ordered from her, then pick someone in the US to zap.

    Let’s share some Disney knowledge!

Okay. I'm putting in my entry for this one.

And, yes...I had to Google some Disney trivia.

    Didn't know this one.

Is Marcus Mouse a Disney character?

Marcus Mouse is a Disney character but certainly a lesser-known one. And where does he come from? Well, should Mickey want to marry Minnie one day, he's going to have to talk to Marcus at some point. Why? Because Marcus Mouse is Minnie's father!

And me, a Minnie Mouse pin Collector.

    The shame. LoL

(Edit: here's a little more info and a picture. Gosh, he looks more like Minnie's grandfather.)

Marcus Mouse is Minnie Mouse's stern father. He is a farmer, and runs the family farm with his wife. He first appeared in A 'Pot' Shot, an illustrated Mickey Mouse verse from 1930. He was still unnamed, and shown throwing a pot at Mickey's head while the latter is giving a serenade to Minnie.

    I love trivia.

Who was almost cast as the Sorcerer's Apprentice in "Fantasia" (instead of Mickey Mouse)?

What was the 1st soundtrack album ever commercially released?
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

    Theme Parks:
What ride's success influenced Pirates of the Caribbean to be a boat adventure instead of a walkthrough attraction?
    It's a Small World

    LOVE THIS!!!

And I love Walt history and influences in movies... so:

Arendelle (though spelled differently) is named for Walt’s grandfather, Arundel Elias Disney.

And Flora in Sleeping Beauty is named after Walt’s own mother who he tragically lost in 1938. She asphyxiated on gas fumes from a poorly fixed furnace in her new home, which had been purchased by Walt and Roy. His grief and guilt are cited by some as the reason so many Disney characters have such tragic mom stories.

What full house character voices Aladdin?

Answer: Steve (Scott Weinger is his real name)

Sticking with that theme, what Pocahontas character did Christian Bale voice?

    Answer: Thomas

I had to google Disney trivia to find these. I know I’m ashamed of myself lol. Thanks for another fun game! Interested to read others trivia!

On trading pins with cast members using trivia: we had one once challenge us to name every Disney animated movie with a one word title. I don’t remember how many there were, but she had a cheat sheet to keep track and prompted us with hints when we ran out of steam on our own and needed to get the last 2 or 3. So much fun!!

My favorite general bit of Disney trivia is the numerous connections between Disney and the World’s Fairs of old. The most obvious connection is to the 1964 New York World’s Fair where Walt Disney had four attractions: Small World and Carousel of Progress (premiered there before the parks), an animatronic history with President Lincoln (later inspiration for the Hall of Presidents and the American Experience), and a car ride through human history up to space flight (later inspiration for the Spaceship Earth ride).

Less obvious or direct is that the World’s Fairs when they originated in the mid 1800s through at least the early part of the 1900s reflected the assumptions of the European and American countries hosting them, which were overwhelmingly racist. These Fairs were divided into two sections: one showing off the latest and greatest industrial technologies of the “civilized” world and the other with pavilions for the “barbaric” nations to have their cultures on display, more akin to animals in a zoo. Overtime the racist assumptions behind the origins were lessened, but the divide of two areas - one focused on showing off science and technology and the other on showcasing different cultures but now on something closer to equal footing - remained and served as the primary inspiration for the overall design of EPCOT.

I love this so much. I am a huge Disney Trivia Buff. Used to team up with another Disney loving friend in high school and wipe the floor with everyone else at Disney Trivial Pursuit. I don't always get the answers when cast member ask, (especially when they asked me to name something like 15 princesses that don't have their name as the movie title) but I generally get part of the way there by myself and meet other fans to help me with the answers. I once had a group of 3 other traders helping me....and it was so great.

A little bit of harmless parks trivia then. The bell in the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Square at Walt Disney World is cast from the same mold as the original Liberty Bell! Additionally the Great Seal of the United States in the Hall of Presidents attraction took an act of Congress to display!

And finally a helpful tip for anyone that doesn't already know, when you are in the Stretching Room of the Haunted Mansion, stand under the portrait of the woman with the parasol. When the show is done, that is where the door will be (at least in the WDW attraction)!

Edit: Another Haunted Mansion Fact I forgot. The original Organ in the Ballroom scene of the Disneyland Haunted Mansion attraction is a movie star! It was used in the 1954 film adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! The headboard and a few other parts were swapped out, but the body is still the same.

So one of my favorite movies is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Trivia - Tim Burton did not direct it. The movie is based on a poem he wrote Titled The Nightmare Before Christmas.

    Here's trivia I discovered:
In Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Cody uses the fake name Wing Lee when signing up for the contest to be in a music video at the mall. Wing Lee is name on one of the gravestones that used to be at the Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyland (not sure about the other parks).
As of last year, some of the trivia questions on the Jungle Cruise trivia challenge from the Disneyland hotels are outdated due to renovations so you have to ask a CM working the ride to help you answer them.
In Noelle on Disney+, one of the stores in Phoenix sells ShellieMay merchandise.

Trivia I actually read from somewhere:
Originally, Walt wanted to name his park Disneylandia but the TV studios made him shorten it to Disneyland.

This may only be the case at WDW. Disneyland's doors appear in the wall between two portraits while at Tokyo, the door appears beneath different portraits for the two rooms. I go by muscle memory which should be accurate for all three parks. For the room on the left, the exit is right relative to the entrance while for the room on the right, it's left relative to the entrance. The entrance and exit are 90 degrees apart with one wall between them.

I had to answer this question to get a pin from a cast member:

What ride exists at all five Disney Parks, but with slightly different styles?

["Haunted Mansion - Phantom Manor - Mystic Manor"]

https://allears.net/2020/05/16/take-a-ride-on-all-five-haunted-mansion-attractions-at-disney-parks-around-the-world/#:~:text=Take a Ride on All Five ‘Haunted Mansion’,5 Mystic Manor — Hong Kong Disneyland.

I did actually get it right! The ride has semi-different versions due to some cultural differences in each country.

So, similar to Connie's trivia, besides Minnie, who is the other female mouse Disney animated?

Amelia Fieldmouse, she is Mickey’s sister.

I did not know that Mickey has a sister. I had to use Google to find this information.

    Ooh, I love Disney trivia!

What is special about the headboard of the bed in the treasure room in DLR's Pirates of the Caribbean?

It has a real human skull.

What is Disneyland's address and what is its significance?

1313 Disneyland Drive; the 13th letter of the English alphabet is M, so 1313 stands for MM, or Mickey Mouse

There is a "basketball" court (more like a key) at the top of the Matterhorn.
Not sure if this is true, but here is a depiction...

There are approximately 1000 Hidden Mickeys in Disneyland.

The bronze statue of Mickey and Walt in DCA is titled "Storytellers". This was one of the trivia questions I got when

Before the Florida Project, there was talks and planning of opening an indoor theme park in St. Louis Missouri called Walt Disney’s Riverfront Square. Taking up two city blocks and 5 stories high, it ended after funding dispute between the city and Disney. Much of the classic Disney attractions such as the Haunted Mansion and the Pirates of the Caribbean were initially in production for this shuttered idea. Considering St Louis now has an empty NFL football stadium adjoining the convention center (the planned XFL replacement shuttered due to covid), I wonder what it would take to retrofit that location into what was originally planned. If only, le sigh...
